Improving New Zealand waterways
"I found the holistic approach towards business at Kōkiri, really insightful and Moira Neho, the mentor, hugely helped me galvanize my future”
One of the 10 Kōkiri programme participants was Logan Williams (Kai Tahu) who has invented a process that converts the pest algae Didymo into a range of durable materials. Logan’s Christchurch based start-up business Biome, uniquely specialises in a process that turns Didymo into sheets that create zero waste in production, are mouldable and available in a range of colours, textures, and patterns.
Logan is committed to improving New Zealand waterways and saw the devastating impact Didymo had on waterways in South Canterbury where he was raised. Further to this invention, Logan is currently working with Diary giant, Fonterra in a multi million dollar initiative that sees farm run off water purified. The 22 year-old has recently transacted a deal with international health and pharmaceutical company, Johnson & Johnson, for his invention of special contact lenses that assist sufferers of epilepsy
